On Sunday at Our Lady of Mercy and St Joseph we celebrated with great joy the Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion of Beverley Murray. Beverley took the baptismal name of Antonia, because of the help she has received as a result of asking St Anthony to intercede for her, and her sponsor was her husband Gregory. For her confirmation name she chose Melita, and she was sponsored by her mother Linda.
So to the cake which was duly cut with much acclaim from the hungry horde of parishioners who crowded into the Parish Centre, even though we had already consumed a good number of Barbara's daughter Suzi's yummy cup cakes!

I missed what sounds like a lovely celebration and cakefest, due to a nasty allergy totally unrelated to cake. Congratulations to Beverley and her family. I've never heard the name Melita before; it's very pretty. I love the origins of names and how they match folk's traits and personalities. My Dad was named after St Anthony of Padua, although he was eternally Tony. When I was little, my mother would often mutter "Anthony, Anthony look around, something's lost and must be found"; a habit I seem to have inherited. I know the name Gisele derives from Gisilbert, meaning Bright Pledge, which is lovely. I know that my patron saint, St Gilbert, features in a legend up in Sutherland where he overcomes a dragon, or large salamander! Perversely, I seem to have an affinity for lizards and snakes and find them quite beautiful.
I'm sure you all made Beverley Antonia feel very welcome at OLMSJ.
