Magnolias opening on Easter Day in the garden of Pylewell House,  the birthplace of Joseph Weld, who founded the Church of Our Lady of Mercy in 1859.

Gorgeous pic Nicky! I love these chalice-flowered magnolias: my little garden can only cope with the smaller, star-flowered variety. Mine hasn't quite woken up yet. Someone once told me that magnolias were traditionally grown in church gardens because the species had evolved over millions of years. I love that they look so delicate but are actually so hardy!
