MARRIAGE IS A WONDERFUL INVENTION

The sad loss of her much-loved husband did not pevent Joan from celebrating her sixtieth wedding anniversary with her friends last week.   Some of her guests have been married for quite a few years, too.     We found that Tom, Denis and Peter, who had retreated to the corner of the room for a few minutes peace and quiet, have already managed to knock up a total of 149 years of matrimonial bliss between them!   They don't look any the worse for it, do they?

(I've now corrected my careless spelling mistakes!) Far from looking the worse for wear, these gentlemen look relaxed, content and rather well groomed! What a fine commendation for marriage.
My late Mum and Dad would also have celebrated more than 60 years of marriage this June. How sad that apparently 1 in 10 of recent marriages will fail in the first 5 years. I suspect that some couples may now see marriage as a formalised "long relationship" rather than the lifelong union and sacrament it should be.
Nice to see Mr Billy Connolly (nearly) being quoted in the Blog! He's not portrayed as the greatest fan of the Catholic Church, but he is a great humanitarian and famously happy family man. He once said in an interview that he doesn't think he quite believes in God, but he beleves in people who do. He also said that when he was growing up he thought his football team was called "Partick Thistle Nil"...
