100 year anniversary of first world war - 2014

Once again another year has gone and a new page is about to turn ....
Let us hope for a better new year with less conflict and war. The conflicts in Syria, Afganistan and other war zones have filled the news throughout the year.

This last year of 2014 being the year of special remembrance for the first world war
There are few living witnesses to that war still alive but the futility of the loss of life in any war is something we should never forget.

Here is a song that reflects the great loss of life in the first world war and shows how easy it is to forget the pain of the loss of life in war. The song was written by Clifford T Ward who as a teacher spent time in France away from his wife. He went on a day trip to the war graves to escape his feeling of being home sick and missing his wife.
In terms of poetry there are few better than him in reflecting the great sadness of someone not returning from war. Alas' Clifford died a few years ago from parkinsons but this song is a fitting reminder to the loss and sadness war can bring to those left behind.
